About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the young woman who sells the black jade. She tells the audience that the jade is made from a boiled potion of sulfur and alfalfa. She explains that if you put it in the cauldron, the jade will tell you if it's real or not. The young woman is shocked to learn that the potion is a fake. She begs the young man to give her back the three spirit stones that she sold him. She says that she was fooled once, and that she doesn't want anyone else to be deceived. She offers to lend him ten spirit stones if he agrees to take the jade. He agrees, but he's worried that she's going to waste the money. He asks her if she knows how much money he lost because of her, and she says that he did. She asks him if he knows how rare elven blood is, and he says that it can be used for cultivating a blood infant.
