About This Chapter
In this short scene, a young man named Ayamupratomo explains that he is taking a nap under the bridge because he does not want to go home to his father, who is a drunk. He says that he will find out if the boy is just a beggar, or if he is just faking blindness. The young man says that people are getting smarter, and that beggars are faking their blindness to make people pity them and give them food and money. He also says that fate can be cruel, that one can live in poverty, while others are living on the couch and watching the news. He adds that he has been tired of walking around for hours, without any enemies in sight. He decides to go to a nearby park, where he will be able to rest. He tells the young man that back in his day, there were more parks, but now there are more parks in the center of crowded cities. He compares this to the time when he used to be a kid, when there were parks all over the city. He thinks that it is a great idea to sleep in the park at this time of the day, when people are stuck in traffic.
