About This Chapter
The chapter ends with a soliloquy on the nature of existence. He tells us that he is a unique being who exists but is not yet alive. He asks if the bots are going to let him in. He says that he has known him his whole life and that he will not meet him again. He explains that the cycle of human history is repeating itself and that what is born is destroyed and what is created is reborn. The primary reason that humans screw things up is that they screw up everything. The idea of the skynet is a "little farfetched" , he says. He then goes on to say that there are many jobs that will be lost as a result of automation. Some five million jobs are expected to be replaced by 2020, and by 2050 it will be closer to 50 million. Some of these jobs include loan officers, clerks, receptionists, retail sales, drivers, security guards, cooks, programmers, bartenders, and financial advisors.
