About This Chapter
In this chapter, the UM explains how he and his team came to be able to map the human genome. He explains that he wants to tell everyone what he has done, even if it is distasteful, because he wants them to know how bad things were before he did it. He tells them that he has started to make reparations to the families of those who lost their jobs during the Great Recession, and he says that if things go wrong, he is prepared to do the same for them. The UM tells his father that he is a bad person for spending his money on "whores" . He reminds him of the pain he feels in his son's eyes when he thinks of him. He says that he saw the pain in the eyes of his own son when he was a young boy. He wants to spare him the sad story of the rich lost boy, but he does not want his father's help. He calls him a "bad person" and says that whatever flaws he has, he got from his father. He asks his father not to lose his son too, because they have a "rare positive incoming" from India. He hires a woman to seduce his son away from the office. He also tells his son that he must be jessy, because she was genuine and had a history of "emotional abuse." He asks if he thinks they will find the last of the sixty-six rare pieces, and she says that they are so close that they cannot tell him much about it. They are close to finishing the task, he says, but it is going to "change everything." He tells his friend that the cube is the "square of a circle."
