The chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the school year, when the three students are on their way back from the trip to the seashore. The flashback shows that the three of them are still in high school, and that they have not yet had a chance to reminisce about the past. The three students realize that they do not have a memo to share about the trip, and they will have to invest in a gate when they return home
