The chapter opens in the student council office, where the vice-captain of the school's women's basketball team has started to complain about the lack of respect shown to her by the other members of the team. She wants to remove him from his position as the captain of the girls' basketball team. The captain tells her that she should have used her power as a member of the council to silence her, but she says that no one on her team was under her power, and that she is not using her power on any of her other team mates. She tells the captain that there is one more person on the team, and the captain says that he cannot just come over and do as she wants him to do. He says that there are no more students to turn to because of him, and he calls him a "presi dent" . She says that she thinks something strange is going on in his room, and wonders if it might be a witch's influence. She wonders if there is another room in the school where there is a reference room, but he says there is no clue there. She adds that there could be another clue in the reference room at the school, but that the only hope lies in the fact that there might not be a choice but to leave the school. She asks the captain if he would like to see three of her students, but the captain replies that he would rather see them all together. He then says that they are counting on him to be absent the next day, so he must go to the school clubhouse. He tells her he is counting on her to be with him, but when she asks him why, he says that everyone relies on him too much, and they treat him like a tool. He asks her to stay away from
