About This Chapter
The masked man tells the girl that he is reading her fortune. He asks her if she has come to see the fortune teller, and she says that she has, but that she is not sure if it is the same fortune teller as the one who told her about her father's death. He tells her that he does not have enough money to buy a costume for her, and that she should go home and find a job. He says that he has no use for anyone with no money, because he is always hungry for money. He adds that the money he is asking for is not enough, and wonders where the girl is. The girl says that the man has gone home, and the masked man asks him where she is. He replies that he thinks she has gone back to the back alley, where she has been following the man. He then asks her what she is going to do with the money. She replies that she will go home, but he says that it is too expensive for her to do so. She then asks him what he is doing, and he answers that he was doing the fortune telling. She tells him that she was following him, and when he asks her where she was, she responds that he had gone home. He goes on to say that he did not know what she was doing, because she had been following him. She says that this morning the heavens called, and someone called for her. She asks him to let her go, but when he says no, she says, "I am the masked boon, the dash ta' this fare well." She then tells him to go buy her costume, and they go off to buy her a costume
