About This Chapter
In this short scene, we learn that Alek is in a strange state of mind. He feels that his mind is slipping out of his control, and that he is being attacked by the enemy. He realizes that the enemy is trying to trick him, but he is unable to react to the attack. He also realizes that he has been attacked by a meteor, which is not a real meteor at all, but an image of a meteor. He wonders if the meteor is just a symbol of the enemy, or if it is the image of the goddess Elmire, who is manipulating him. He is also confused by the fact that the gears of his mind are coming to a halt, and he wonders if he is sane again. He asks Alek if he can go anywhere in the shape of the meteor, but Alek says that he cannot, because he can feel Lilith's magic. He tells Alek that he must go to his lover, because his body and mind are both in a state of suspended animation. Alek tells him that this is a distorted time, because time has stopped flowing. He explains that he knows that he can break through the spell, but that his guilt is the root of the spell's power. He says that the only way to break the spell is to stir up the hatred in his mind, and this is what he has already done with Elmire.
