In this chapter, the reader is introduced to a new character, the "blade dragon" . The blade dragon is a member of the wizard's guild, and he is the one who slays the dragons. He is also known as the "first generation" of the dragon slayers because he received his power from the dragon. The second generation is those who have lacrima, or magic, in their bodies, and the third generation is the ones who eat the dragons and gain their powers by eating the "wyrms" , or dragon eaters.
