The chapter opens with a description of the plague that the dragon has caused on the land. The people curse the prince who betrayed them and pray to the dragon. The rain of fire causes them to melt together like candles. Some people survive because of their protection from the Prince's companions, but they also disappear into the "sea of wax" . The chapter ends with a soliloquy about the "white tiger god" and how he is frozen in time. The narrator asks the reader to stop the story. He tells the reader that the story is already more than he expected, and that he still has feelings for him even though he knows the truth
