In this chapter, we learn that the phoenix goddess is the "resurrection flame" of the demon tribe. The first time the tribe faced extinction, the phoenix god came to save them. The second time, however, she did not come to save the tribe, because the tribe's "horns are rare treasures," and so they were slaughtered. The demon lord tells us that the chances of the two of them surviving are now very small. He tells the audience that he will protect them both one day, just like the way the phoenix protected him.
