About This Chapter
In this short scene, the audience is introduced to the protagonist, a shy girl who has just returned from a vacation in Europe. She tells the director of the play that she has decided to make a modern production to save the money. The protagonist explains that the protagonist's teacher is so bossy that he is nicknamed "King" by his classmates. He has been taking good care of her since she was injured in a car accident when she was a child. The director asks her why she is crying, and she explains that she lost her mother's watch and that she will speak up for her if her aunt punishes her. She says that she does not have to worry about saving money now that she is going back to school. She asks the director if she can keep walking with him to school, and the director says that he can take it, but he can't because he has to go to a distant city to get a new school phone.
