This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter. In this scene, we are introduced to a number of characters who have appeared in the previous chapters. The flashback is a kind of mini-recap of the events that have taken place in the present chapter. For example, in Chapter 1 , we see a group of soldiers marching through the streets of Paris. They are followed by a large crowd of people, including a large number of soldiers from Le Bret's army. Le Bret, however, is not one of these people. He is the leader of the army, and he is the one who is leading the charge against the Parisians. The crowd is made up of a mixture of revolutionaries, soldiers, and police officers, and they are led by Le Bret himself. The police officers are carrying weapons, which they have brought with them from the battlefield. The soldiers are carrying anesthetics, which Le Bret has given them as a gift from the French government. The men are carrying hidden weapons, and Le Bret explains that they will use these weapons to rescue Le Bret from Paris.
