This chapter opens with a flashback to the previous chapter, in which we learn that the commissioner of discipline has forbidden the blood servants to accompany the nobles to a family gathering. This time, however, the servants are invited to the party, and the commissioner is angry with the noble for bringing the servants with him. The servant, Duxiaoshen, tells the noble that she has an urgent need to go out, but the noble refuses to allow her to do so.
