About This Chapter
In this short scene, Shylock discusses his decision to go to college with the help of the class president, mirae, and his friend, Yeallum. Shylock realizes that he is going to have to deal with the fact that he will not be able to hang out with his friends at school, and he begins to worry about whether or not they will recognize him as "gay" or "like" . He also worries about whether they will associate his name with the school's "Welcoming Reception for Freshmen" , which is to be held the next day at a restaurant. The class president tells Shylock that the party will be a great opportunity for him to make new friends and get to know the senior class members better. He tells him that they will be having a reception at the restaurant, and that he should come, even if he does not go to the party, because it will be an opportunity to meet his friends and make new ones. He then drinks a large amount of liquor, and the two of them begin to drink together. He is so drunk that he cannot even remember what he is doing, and when he finally does remember, he is so intoxicated that he falls to the ground and faints.
