About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Jack and the gang have lost their way in the maze, and that they need to get back to the front of the house. Jack is surprised to find that they're not lost, but rather, they've been "scared creak step step," or "scroched step." He wonders if they'd done nothing if they hadn't been afraid to crawl down the stairs and freeze to death. He's not sure how to answer the question he asked, "What am I to do if I suddenly disconnect it?" , but he's going to think about it, and he'll try to figure out the answer to that question. He asks if Jack is feeling well and apologizes for bringing him back. He thanks the gang for coming back, and says that he doesn't think they have ever had a "proper conversation" before. He says he won the bet with the android, and they congratulate him on it. Jack says that it's embarrassing that he thought he would die like this, but that he'd be better off than a punk who survived "literal hell" . He dedicates this song to the gang, and asks them to finish it in one shot, so he can consider it.
