About This Chapter
In this short scene, the young narrator tries to remember the events of the previous day, but he can't figure out what they were. He's also confused by the fact that the president doesn't seem to remember anything that happened on the day of the accident. The young narrator wants to go to a restaurant, meet some friends, and meet a boyfriend, but the president won't let him do that. He just keeps thinking of the president. The narrator then notices that the young man is staring at the president, and he starts to worry about what he's supposed to do next. He wants to meet a new boyfriend, he wants to do some hobbies, and, he also wants to have some time to himself. Suddenly, he thinks about the president again, and suddenly, he realizes that he has to stop staring at him. He starts to think about the other young men in the neighborhood, and they start asking him questions. He tells them that he just got a new job, which means he can now go to their hang-out and meet his new friends. He also tells them about how he used to have to work late on weekdays, but now he has a job, he can meet his friends and have more time for hobbies.
