About This Chapter
The next morning, the Governess returns home to find that her daughter has failed her job interview. The Governess is so upset by her daughter's failure that she cries at the sight of her son, who keeps crying. She tells her daughter that the next day will be the start of her search for a new job, so she will make her daughter something delicious to eat so that she will not be sad. She then tells her son that he will have to take care of the baby. The child's mother is not at home, and she asks her son if he would like to hear more about her. He says that he does not want to listen to her story, but he does want to raise the child well. He tells her that if anything should happen to his son, he will take the child to his father, who will then take charge of raising the child. He asks her to hold the child properly, so that the child will feel comfortable in his father's presence. He also tells her how to prepare the baby for his milk, which is a sign that the baby is hungry.
