About This Chapter
"Stop bothering mister.vic" , the narrator says, and they're giving Henry a "massage" . Henry says he's feeling a little "sore" lately, and the narrator wonders what it's like to be a kid again . The two of them shake hands and shake like they used to , and Henry says that he'll shake like he used to when he was a kid, too. The narrator says that if Henry were a kid now, he'd shake like that too, and he wonders what that would be like for him . He's sure that'll be the case for Riley too. He says that the narrator is the one who "killed" James's parents, and that the blame for their deaths lies with the "ignorant and irresponsible couple" for having a child . If they'd never lost all of their money, Jim's mother would never have had to go through with lung disease, and James' father would have died fighting with creditors instead of fighting with them . It's all a lie, says the narrator, and if the narrator doesn't tell the truth to James, he has another plan for him. He tells the narrator to "just close your eyes" before he finds out the truth, because he loves him.
