About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a conversation between Percy and Henry. Percy tells Henry that he admires his generosity in bringing up an orphan, and that he understands that he is having a difficult time doing so. He says that he will buy the school and hopes that the new principal will be a good person. Henry becomes Percy's chairman of the school board, and Percy and Andrew cringe whenever they come across each other. Henry tells Percy that if he were mean to him, he would buy the entire town and wipe out all the people of it. Percy apologizes for his rudeness to Henry, and says that it makes him feel like he is not just a servant in Henry's house, but that he keeps expecting something from him. He asks Henry if he thinks he is doing laundry too much, and he says yes, but he hates dirty things. He then asks if there is something wrong with James, and she says that she thinks she should say something. She tells him that she is shocked that he found his energy back, and asks him if he wants to get married, but not get adopted. He tells her that he does not want to be married, because he wants someone else to marry him.
