The next morning, the two young men go out for a walk. When they arrive, they are greeted by the Prince and Madame de Guiche, who have just returned from their meeting with the King. The Prince asks the young men if they would like to go for a ride with him on the subway, and they all agree that they would do so. The young men are shocked to learn that the King is taller than they are, and that he is of mixed race. They also learn that he has recently sent them a message asking them to dress up in their best clothes for the morning's meeting. They are shocked at the sight of the King's fangs, and are horrified at the resemblance between the two men. The two men agree to meet again at the same place later that evening.
