In this short scene, the Governess explains that she has received a letter from the stalker. The letter demands that she marry the man she was her first love. The Governess realizes that the stalker threatened her in person, but she is unable to believe that he would pull her out of the house at night. She decides that she will catch the stalker and see who he is. She tells her mother that she does not want the police or her husband to help her.
