About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that the girls haven't spoken to each other since summer break. They're half way through the summer break, and the narrator hasn't heard from them either. He's worried that they're hiding the fact that he's the father of the girl they've just met. The narrator doesn't think it's a good idea for the kid to know that his father is looking over his homework. He also thinks that yonezuka and uehara have gotten together and decided that they want to be pharmacists. He wonders if she's really serious about becoming a pharmacist, but he knows that she'll never be able to do that. He thinks that she must have had some sort of traumatic experience that made her want to do something different. He tells her that she looks like a "wreck" and that she needs to "go away" . She tells him that her hair is fine, but that she can't touch it. She also says that her sister made her promise not to touch her, and that's "amazing" to her. She's glad that she was able to help her, she says, because she thinks that a lot of people wouldn't do that for a stranger.
