About This Chapter
It's the same dog that the narrator found before, and he's super excited to have found it. He's even more excited to find out that the dog's going to be eating a ton of food, so the narrator can just feed the dog bananas. The narrator doesn't want to worry about the cost of feeding the dog, but he does want to make sure the dog isn't a total disaster. The dog is smart enough to figure out that if he eats bananas, he'll be even smarter than the narrator, so they can just give him bananas and feed him them. But the narrator is not so sure about this plan. He thinks the dog is too smart to eat bananas, so he can just let the dog starve to death. He also thinks it's a good idea to keep the dog so he won't have to be shy around the dog. He tells the narrator to ride the dog around to the grocery store and buy the dog some bananas so that he can feed him bananas instead of bananas. This is a great idea, the narrator says, because it'll save the dog a lot of money. He can buy ten bananas, which is a lot for a dog to eat, and the dog will still be able to eat the bananas. He wants to buy the highest-quality banana he can find, but his mom is worried about her dog, so she's not going to let him buy a banana that's as good as the one his mom gave him. The mom is going to get rid of her dog if he buys the banana, and she'll have to pay for the dog to be fed bananas. So the narrator has to say no to the mom's request that he eat the banana. He says he can't eat it because it smells so
