About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the novel, when the protagonist's sister, Mina, explains to the audience that she is now the head of the branch of the Hiizum family, which has been trying to get revenge on the family that ruled Japan during the reign of Emperor Hirohito. Mina explains that she has been eating right and that she can see the whole country through the window of the hotel where she is staying. She also says that everyone in the country has seen what has happened in the past few days, and that they are now afraid of what will happen in the future. Mina tells us that the ghosts of the mayors of the past who have been visited by demons from the other side of the world have been sent to this graveyard, where they will be buried. Mina says that the ritual of sending the ghosts into the graveyard has been going on for 500 years, and she is the one who ordained it. She explains that the month of September is the month in which the gods are still present. Mina then borrows a picture of a pillar, which she says is a device that keeps the fusion of the ghosts from happening
