About This Chapter
The chapter opens with Hiizumi talking about the seven pillars. He says that they've always been a big part of the town, but now that he thinks about it, he realizes that they don't really know anything about them. They're closer to the sakura, he thinks, but he can't get there by car. He wonders if there's an archive in the town that contains information about the pillars, but no one knows about it. He's worried that they won't be able to figure out what's going on in the future. He also wonders if the other work that's been going on, like getting rid of the family's power, will be solved in the meantime. He thinks that even if they were able to do that, it wouldn't solve the problem of the seven-pillars. The other work, hiizumi says, is to get rid of all the other things that are in the way of the dimension--the family, the senate, the тр, the neighborhood association, and so on--so that the dimension doesn't interfere with the other dimension. The idea is that the pillars serve as a kind of channel between the other dimensions and the dimension itself, which is why they're so important. The two men agree that the whole town is too big for them to get up on a ladder to get to the other side of the pillars.
