About This Chapter
In this short scene, we learn that Maria and Cesario are on their way to the Galapagos Islands, where they will spend the rest of their lives together. They've been traveling alone for 35 days, and they're about to cross the equator when they run into the "land gods" of the Galapagos: Anki, the god of the sea, and Clink, a god of land. Anki asks Cesario if he's heard of the "traveling land gods" . Cesario says that he has, but that he doesn't want to "rest for a bit" , because the line between brother and sister is "ague at best." He's just a kid with blue eyes, blonde hair, and blue eyes . Clink and Anki agree that they should hand over their daughter and son-in-law, but Cesario isn't having any of it. He wants to know who the "hell" and "the land" are, and he wants Cesario to tell him what's been going on. He tells Cesario that he is a "land god" with no land, and that he and his brother have walked the entire way, but he can't cause them any more trouble. They agree that Cesario should grab the sun and "grab the sun's about inn," where they'll find a place to stay for the night. They also agree to cut Cesario and Maria off before they get to their destination. They won't be able to do it again, they say, because they've already cut
