About This Chapter
The Governess wonders why the town hasn't been able to figure out what's been going on. She wonders if it's because she's read the minds of the people in the town, and she wonders if the Governess herself has been reading their minds, too. She says that she understands that the town is in a bind, but that she can't judge well unless she "reads their mind" . She tells him that he's the only person in the world who can judge, and that he should just take care of himself and do what he needs to do. He tells her that if she messes up, he'll come and "lean on" him and the town. She then tells him to go and buy dinner, and then she says she'll be back. She also tells him he should be careful not to get depressed, because "everyone goes through life" , and if he messes up he can come back and lean on her and him. He then tells her to come back to the office and fix the town's problems. He also tells her not to worry, because everyone goes through their life, and they should do what they have to do to get where they want to go. He says that if they mess up, they should just come back, lean on him, and this town and the office. He goes on to tell her that she should just "take care of herself and doing what she need to do" and not worry about what people think of her. He adds that he can tell that people are always going through life, but he can only judge them by what they think of him. They go off to get dinner. The Govern
