About This Chapter
"For the longest time," says the narrator, "humankind has been afflicted by a curse. If only they had known that a stranger was out there, they would have been able to rid themselves of it. The narrator tells us that this curse has been in place for "the longest time" , and that it's a curse that humanity has suffered from for the last six years. He says that if humanity had known about the stranger, they wouldn't have been afflicted with the curse. He adds that the curse has always been a curse on humanity because it has been a stranger, an "incomprehensible stranger," and a stranger "full of secrets." The narrator says that he's seen a few bodies, but none of them match the case. He's also seen a sleeping child, but he hasn't found a way to get him out of the house. He tells the narrator to come in and keep an eye on the sleeping child. He also tells him that there's been a lot of commotion around the area, and he could get eaten if he ate it. He asks the narrator if he didn't say he would stop smoking, and the narrator says he doesn't smoke when he feels miserable, but when he does, he always smokes when he is miserable. When the narrator asks if he knows about the disappearance of the child, the narrator tells him it turns out that the child was from the get-go-go, which is crazy, since the child had come from a place called the "get-tho-down."
