About This Chapter
The narrator tells the audience that the hong family is trying to become the next president of the country. As a businessman, it is out of their hands. The duan family is also out of business. The only two remaining shops are run by their second son, who does not know how to run a business. He says that even if his son comes back, he won't allow the family to become a part of the business again. The narrator says that his hometown has changed since he left, but that there are still many shops left. The town has built a factory and many people have left for other jobs. He asks the chauffeur to tell him how his family compares to the duan clan. The chauffeur tells him that the fighting has not stopped and that his home is also very lively.
