The narrator and the other students discuss the magic lantern circus, which is being held at the academy. The narrator says that the students will be able to see them again, and that they have decided to make them friends again. He says that they will meet them at the "star books" in the front of the theater. The girls tease the narrator about his behavior, saying that he is acting like a "stupid idiot" with out a "care in the world." The girls say that he has been acting strange all day, and they tease him about it. He tells them that he feels like he is forgetting something important in his life, and he says that he does not want to go back to school.
