This chapter opens with a soliloquy by the Governess, in which she tells us that she's not really sure what to make of the whole "Darkness" thing. The Governess says that she doesn't really understand what's going on, but she does know that it's a dangerous thing to do. She also says that if she had to do it all over again, she'd do it in a heartbeat. She's also worried about what kind of person she'll be when she dies. She says that the only thing she can think of to do now is to call an ambulance.
