About This Chapter
The girls are on their feet, and the narrator tells them that they're wasting their time. They'll all get old and senile, and they'll never see their families again. The narrator tells the girls that he's going to ship them off to the war-torn country of Afghanistan, and that they should be happy with that. They all laugh at the idea, but the narrator doesn't believe them. He's not convinced that they can defeat the enemy by using booby traps. Instead, he says, they should use a new tactic: they should find a new scorpion and use it to root out the enemy. The scorpion follows the nose of the enemy, and he follows the armillary sphere of the mistress of the battle. The mistress is so impressed that she cries out, "first in fact, hon dare you to hurt my servant" . She's right, says the narrator, because she's so weak that she can't even hurt her servant. He tells her that the new scorpion is the granddaughter of a wealthy arab, or someone who's rich enough to support a weird kid. He says that the girl is a "new thorn keeper" , meaning that she knows how to use the "armillary sphere" to root the enemy out. He also says that there are six new keepers in the battle, including Alexander of flame , who is the only keeper worthy of the "thorn keeper" title. The captain is using the "brain washin' machine" to make him obey the orders of the new keeper. The new keeper is right there.
