The first chapter opens with a soliloquy by Enoshima. Enoshima tells us that he and his men have come to destroy the air carrier, the "Bigotry" . He compares it to a battle between a single team of cyclops and a single army of ants. He says that he would rather die than fight with Enoshima's men. He tells them that he has come to report to the "Kogarasumaru" for duty, and to report back to Enoshima with his orders. The ants tell him that they have come because they want to kill the "all right guy" on the ship. They also tell him about the "Thunder Road Direct Current" , which they believe will allow them to kill elephants. They say that the ship is cooling by using the heat of the air to "blub" the water. They wonder if they will be able to stop them, but Enoshima says that they will have to wait until they see the "Lamb" of God, who is using the flames of the ants to take away the "sin of the world." Enoshima then tells his men that he thinks it would be best if they and Enoshima fought with the other men to clear the decks before they bring down the enemy.
