About This Chapter
Back in London, we meet up with Laura, who's just returned from a trip to Inanna's house. She's excited to be there, but she's also worried about what's going to happen when she leaves. Laura tells us that she doesn't want to kill anyone, but that she'd like to kill someone who has a bright future. Laura says that she can't kill anyone who has lost their way in the world, because they're already dead. She also says that killing someone with a future isn't like killing someone who is already dead, because you're killing someone for an invitation. She says that's not the way to go about it, because she already has a future, and killing someone is just a way to get rid of him. Laura admits that she was happy for six months, and that she still wants her life. She wants to know what it's like to be a part of the divine family, and she wants to help Laura understand that she has a lot more to offer than meets the eye. She tells Laura that she should be able to see what the divine has done to all of humanity, and should feel lucky to be alive. She adds that she feels stupid for wanting to feel that way, and for wanting her life to be so much longer than it is. She feels stupid too, for wanting so much more than she actually has. She knows that she will be dead within two years, and her mother's grief will freeze her and Laura together for the rest of their lives. They both feel like they've known each other for a long time, and now they know each other better. They're both psyched to tell each other what they know.
