About This Chapter
In this short scene, the young protagonist tells his mom that he made a friend the day before, and that he wishes he could speak to her. He tells her that he has been seeing invisible lines in the sky that lead him to important things, like a spirit. He explains that he is a foreigner, and he knows that he does not fit in. He says that he saw glowing strings around him yesterday, which is why he followed him to the shrine to make him calm down. He doesn't know what triggered it, but he does know that it was part of something he was meant to meet. He asks his mom to give him their phone number, but she refuses, saying that they have endured a lot worse than this. The protagonist asks if they have company, and she says that they do, but that they need to get to the root of the problem. She tells him that they fought turtle monsters a week ago, and the protagonist says that if he threatens her, she will bite his eyes out. He then asks if she is okay, and her response is that she is not. He also asks if her daughter is coming to visit, and his mother says that she does not know. He tries to calm her down, and tells her to stay calm.
