About This Chapter
The action shifts to a young man who is climbing up a coconut tree. As he ascends, he begins to think of what he will do with the coconuts he will make from the trees. He imagines that he will start a poultry business, then goats, and eventually a cattle empire. After which, he will marry the princess, and become king. The young man, who is called mat jenin, is based on a traditional folk tale about a man who climbs a tree while still dreaming of his future. He is worried about a young woman who has come to meet him at the train station. He tries to smile innocently to her, but the young woman is suspicious of him. She asks him if he is okay, and he replies that he is. She tells him that the young man has a message for him in islam, meaning "peace be upon you," and that he should be happy. He asks her if she is scared of him, and she replies that she is. He tells her that he has a "bowl head" that has not been flushed with soap. She then asks him to show her what else he has. He says that he wants to be rich, marry, and get married. He wants to go home and pay off his student loans, but he does not know where he is going. He has not even called his mother to ask why he is not doing well. He wonders if the girl is pregnant. She says that she has not yet done her laundry
