This chapter's epigraph is from Chapter 614, "A Standstill across the River" . It's a quote from Buddha's Illustrious Journey, in which he says, "I am the light of the world. I am the center of the universe, and the light is the source of all things." This quote is a reference to the fact that the universe is made up of light and darkness, and that there are two kinds of light: the "light" and the "dark." In other words, the light and the darkness are the same thing, but the darkness is more powerful. Buddha says that the only way to get rid of darkness is to remove it from the universe itself. He wants to know if anyone on the opposite side of the river has the power to remove the darkness from him.
