This chapter opens with a flashback to the events of the previous chapter, in which Cai Ming-liang explains that he and his sister were sacrificed to the spirit beasts in order to protect them from the "poisonous fog" that would arise from the sacrifice. He explains that the fog was caused by the sacrifice of the spirit beast, and that after the sacrifice, "the spirit beasts became resentful of the area" and began to attack the area. The flashback ends with the setting of the next chapter, which opens with the sound of a rustle in the distance.
