This chapter opens with a soliloquy by a woman named Gas Malayalam. She's talking to a soldier named Hardass, who's just returned from a trip to the moon. Gas says he's been working on a new weapon, but he can't get it to work yet. He needs money for it, he says, because he makes his own weapons because he likes them. He asks Gas to give him some money so he can finish his new weapon.
