About This Chapter
In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character named "Sunshine" . He is a former soldier who has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He has come to Shanghai as a friend, hoping that he will be able to support him in his mission against the Ba'ath. He tells Sunshine that he is not satisfied with his decision, and that the national army had no other option but to calm down the civilians. He asks Sunshine to leave immediately, but he refuses, saying that he was once a soldier. He reminds Sunshine that it was the army's only choice in the current situation. He says that he only came to Shanghai to be an old friend, and not to fight the world. He also reminds Sunshine of his role as the one who taught him how to shoot a gun. Sunshine tells him that he must not compromise because of fear of failure, and he reminds him that they must not allow anyone to interfere in their business. He adds that he hopes that he does not endanger their plan. He then tells Sunshine to introduce himself for a bit, and says that it is best to keep his identity a secret. There are plenty of other people who wanted to kill him, he says.
