The monk tells the taoist that he has not yet reached the "land of signless." He blames himself for not being able to "break through the obstacle" of being "calm to life" and "death." He hopes that the master will fulfill his wish. The monk asks the master to explain the difference between evil and the right path. The evil path is the "yin" path, while the "tangy" path is "the yang" path. Evil is the result of thinking, and tao is the cause of action. The master explains that going the evil path depends on a moment's thinking. The junior monk has killed too many people, and he has stolen the demon sword. He has fallen for tricks, and has been against orthodoxy. But if sorcery is still bad, then is it still bad? The monk explains that the "Lotus Sutra" said, "Compassing innumerable sentient creatures, benefiting gods, and liberating their all is important." The monk then explains that he's improved considerably. He thanks the master for helping him break through the "obstacle of realizing the true reality." He's dead.
