About This Chapter
In this short scene, the narrator introduces us to a number of characters. First, he introduces himself as "San" . He explains that he is in the middle of a training session for the American Sign Language, and that he has just returned from his aunt's house, where she is teaching him a little sign language. He tells her that he will be sleeping over at her house, and he asks her if she would like to watch a movie with him. She says that she would, but that she has to go to the kitchen to do so. He says that his aunt is cheering him on because "off lay" , he can give it his best, and they will be happy together. He asks her to sleep over on the sofa, and she says that it would be nice if they could do so together. She tells him that she is glad that he didn't sleep over that night, because it would have made him nervous.
