About This Chapter
It's been a long time since the creature was born, but it's still a mystery to him. He's learned to read and write, but he still has a long way to go before he's mastered the art of storytelling. He asks for tea to accompany him on his journey, and the creature replies that he'll have a soft bed once he has some chocolate. The creature doesn't seem to mind the chocolate, and he tells the reader that he thinks he can tell the difference between the chocolate and the real thing by the way he talks about it. He also tells us that he likes to tell stories in storybook form, and that he thought he'd try his hand at storytelling once. He tells the story of how he came to be, and then he asks if he can help him make clothes for Tomoyo's upcoming play. He says he can do that, too, if he wants to, and if he likes it, he can move on to more proper clothes. He then tells us about the school play they're putting on for the school festival, and how he and his brother, Tol, are playing the part of the teacher. Tol tells the creature that he told him that his favorite person was still alive, and when he found him, he would be his favorite, too. At the time, the creature didn't understand what he was saying, but now he understands. To the creature's brother, Yonebayashi, has one more class before he leaves for home.
