In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, who is introduced as "whoosh" . We learn that he is a member of the Time Traveller's community, and that he and his friend, Shu-Ning, have just returned from a trip to France. The two of them are in the middle of a conversation about time travel, and they are interrupted by the arrival of a card. Shu-Sung asks whoosh is, and the two exchange a few words about their time travel experiences. They decide that they will meet again in the future, and when they do, they will be able to communicate through the card.
