The chapter opens with a flashback to the training kitchen, where a swarm of sweets attacked Alice's dreams. The chapter ends with a description of a new dream Alice has had, in which she flies in the air. The narrator tells us that Alice has been learning more and more to do in the kitchen, and that her brother, Bip, is out for work, too. When the narrator asks about Bip's health, he is told that he is fine and that his tests are not bad. He also tells the narrator that he has made a new costume, using his father's old outfit as inspiration. He asks the narrator if she knows when she will be able to do something, and the narrator says that she does, but that she will not know when it will come. She says that her power is to her and that she sacrificed her power to preserve her life, but she adds that as long as she lives, she will continue to accumulate power.
