About This Chapter
After his parents' death, his brother pulls him out of school because they can't afford to pay for his tuition. He gives him two portable radios so he can listen to the news on his cell phone, but he's not allowed to leave the house without his permission. The only thing he can do is go grocery shopping. He runs into an accident on his way back from a school meeting and runs into some people loading a car. He's stuck in the house for a while and needs someone to help him get out of there. He calls for a cab and thanks the driver for his help the other day. He says he'll come back the next day to see if he can make it to the store. He wants to know if his brother is okay with this. He asks if she's serious about being friends with him, and she says she is. She says she'd like to show him that she can do what she wants in life. She tells him that her brother is always complaining about her cooking, and that's why he always scarfs it down with a single complaint. She asks if he likes working at the restaurant, and he says he does because it's where he can meet people from his home town. He also tells her that he wants to get into broadcasting writing, but that he doesn't have the confidence to make people laugh.
