About This Chapter
The next morning, Hirokazu finds himself in the middle of a conversation with the captain, who has just arrived in the country. He asks the captain what's going on, and the captain tells him that the country is under the control of a foreign power, and that he's not allowed to speak to anyone about it. The captain says that he doesn't want to disturb the peace, so he'll have his men dig a little hole for Hiroko. Hiroko says that she's sorry that she offended him, but she'll be fine. He tells her that he can't blame her for anything, because he'd rather have her back in the hotel than be in the way of the peace. He also says that the captain is supposed to be learning about the country, and he hopes that the man is much better than he is. He says that if it weren't for the captain's presence, he wouldn't have been able to talk to Hiroko at all. He then asks Hiroko if he can stay for a drink with her, and she says yes. She then asks him to hurry her out of the room so that she can have a look at the footage from the shoot. She also asks him if it's okay to chop off her hair and chop on her skin, and Hiroko agrees to do so. He wants to know why they're having to live on the bottom of the heap, and why they have to eat so much food. He's glad that they don't need to worry about what they eat, and asks if they can all have a good laugh together. He adds that if he needs anything, he will search through the trash for it. He wonders if the captain gave him any pointers on how to do it, and when he says yes, he asks if he could still teach it, too. He thinks that the only thing
