About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that love is not based on the eyes, but rather on the mind. In other words, love looks not just with the eyes but also with the "mind" . We learn that Romeo's "sweetness and kindness" , as well as his "fear" are different from the Romeo we saw before. We also learn that the "round table" in this scene is a reference to Arthur's Round Table, which is the same table that Arthur used to fight in the Round Table of Verona. Romeo and Juliet's love for each other is so great that Juliet confesses that she has never thanked Romeo for saving her life. She says that sometimes she listens to the villagers' laughter and pretends that she is eating with them, but the laughter dies when she enters the room, and she feels like an outsider. She tells us that the enchantress cursed the villagers with a book that allows them to escape from the outside world, and that this book was the "cruelest trick" of all.
