About This Chapter
In this chapter, the young narrator tries to cheer up Hiroshi, who has just returned from a trip to the hospital. He tells Hiroshi that he's feeling better after his nap, but that he still has a lot of work to do. Hiroshi says he'll be back soon, but Hiroshi doesn't seem to be feeling well. The young narrator tells him that it's been a long time since he'd had a meal, and that he shouldn't be giving cotton candy to Hiroshi. He also says that Hiroshi is tired from his job, which is why he has been spending so much time with Hiroshi lately. He says that he invited Hiroshi over to his house, and he thinks that he is being a bit of a bother to the inukai, the Japanese people who live in the slums of Japan. He's also upset that he hasn't had an ice cream in a long while, because he used to eat ice cream all the time. The narrator says that the ice cream is from someone who'd been worried about him, and Hiroshi seems to think this is a good thing. He goes on to say that he has always been a fan of Hiroshi's, since he brought home so many animals, but never a dog. He thinks that the dog who saved him that day was probably the same dog who brought Hiroshi back to life, and the narrator is sure that it was Hiroshi who brought the dog back to live with him.
